Privacy policy
Tabrail organises Chrome tabs into workspaces associated with separate browser windows. This policy explains the information the extension accesses, how it uses that information and how you can manage it.
Your workspace records stay on your device. Tabrail has no account system, cloud sync, advertising or analytics service. The extension does not send your workspace records or browsing data to the developer or a Tabrail server.
1. Information the extension handles
- Tab and browsing information: tab titles and full URLs, tab order, pinned status, active-tab state, and browser tab and window identifiers. URLs and titles can incidentally contain personal or sensitive information, including information in query parameters.
- Workspace information: the names you enter, colour and icon choices, workspace order and identifiers, selected workspace, window associations, and creation and update timestamps.
- Website icons: favicon images supplied through Chrome's built-in favicon endpoint or an image already supplied by the browser. These icons help you recognise tabs. Tabrail does not scrape page bodies or inject code into websites.
- Temporary session information: a randomly generated browser-session identifier, saved panel selections and storage-warning state.
- Imported backups: the workspace and tab information in a JSON backup file that you choose to import.
To associate and reconnect workspaces with the correct windows, Tabrail queries metadata from normal Chrome windows, including windows that are not currently assigned to a workspace. Persistent tab snapshots are kept for managed workspaces. Incognito workspaces are not supported.
Tabrail does not request personal identity, health, payment, account credentials, private messages or location information as separate data types. Information you put in workspace names, or that appears in tab titles and URLs, may nevertheless be retained as part of those records.
2. Why this information is used
The extension uses this information only to display and search tabs, organise workspaces, focus the selected window or tab, move tabs between workspaces, save and restore supported tab URLs, reconnect restored windows, and export or import backups.
Active-tab and workspace selection are saved as operational state. Tabrail does not run behavioural analytics, record website clicks or keystrokes, track mouse movement, or monitor website network requests.
3. Storage and recovery copies
Workspace records, current ordered tab snapshots and an earlier recovery snapshot when available are stored in Chrome's local extension storage on your device. Temporary session information is held in Chrome's session storage. Tabrail does not use Chrome's cloud sync storage.
Local records do not have an automatic expiry. They remain until updated, replaced, deleted, or removed with the extension's storage. Closing a workspace window preserves its last saved snapshot so you can restore it later. Restoring a workspace can preserve the previous snapshot as a recovery copy.
Closing an individual tab removes it from the current snapshot, but its URL may remain in an earlier recovery copy or a downloaded backup. The extension does not add its own encryption to local records or backup files. Their protection depends on your device and the location where you keep exported files.
4. Sharing and external services
The extension does not sell or transfer workspace or browsing data to the developer, advertisers, data brokers, or a Tabrail service. It does not use that information for unrelated purposes, creditworthiness decisions or lending.
Tabrail follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements, when using information received through Chrome APIs.
Favicon images are requested through Chrome's built-in extension endpoint. The panel does not directly request icons from a third-party favicon service. Chrome's own operation remains subject to Google's terms and privacy practices.
When you open or restore a tab, Chrome loads the selected website normally. That website receives the ordinary browser requests and may use your existing website session. Its handling of those requests is governed by its own privacy policy.
5. Your controls and deletion
- You can rename and reorganise your workspaces from the panel.
- Deleting a workspace removes its stored workspace record and its current and recovery snapshots. It leaves its live Chrome window and tabs open. Tabrail requires at least one workspace to remain; you can create another before deleting the last existing workspace.
- Uninstalling Tabrail removes its Chrome extension storage. Export first if you want to keep a copy.
- Exporting creates a JSON file containing workspace names, appearance, saved tab titles and URLs, pinned and active state, any included recovery snapshots, and an export timestamp. It does not include browser window or tab identifiers.
- Downloaded backups are under your control and remain after uninstalling the extension. Delete these files separately, including any copies you place in synced folders or other backups.
- Importing a backup adds saved workspace records. Its web addresses open only when you choose to restore them.
Exported URLs may reveal private information. Keep backups in a location you trust and review a backup before sharing it. Tabrail cannot delete copies you have shared or stored outside its extension storage.
6. Permissions and packaged code
- tabs: reads tab titles and URLs for workspace lists, search, snapshots and matching restored windows.
- storage: saves workspace data, recovery copies and temporary session state.
- sidePanel: provides the workspace interface beside your pages.
- favicon: displays recognisable site icons through Chrome.
All executable extension code is included in its package. Tabrail does not download or execute remote JavaScript or WebAssembly. It requests no website host permissions and uses no content scripts.
7. Policy updates and contact
This policy describes the extension version shown above. If the extension's data handling changes, this policy and the Chrome Web Store disclosures must be updated to match.

This policy concerns the Tabrail extension. Visiting the website that hosts this page or contacting support involves the ordinary operation of the relevant hosting or email services, separate from the extension's local workspace storage.
